I've been meaning to take some foggy morning pics in the graveyard for quite some time. Today seemed like a good time to do it. I was up, the fog was still lingering and I was motivated. Who knows when all of that will happen again?

Something told me to 'do the dew'
so I did to dew
do you like the dew?
I too, do.
THis frog lives in our little pond out front. Its name is Pickles. I didn't name it. If I did it would be a male frog named Brutus or something like that.

Last weekend I got up early enough to take some pictures of the morning dew. This is a very heavy crop of the original photo but of the entire bamboo tree, this is the only part I liked that day.

These are two chicks that were hanging out in my backyard drinking alcohol. One fo them is still here.

This cat is fat. He's old and he's been through hell as a cat. He deserves to chill. He's still fat, though. His name is Vinny. Just kidding. It's Yoda.

This is Carmen, the bipolar cat.

not much time lately for pictures but that's partially a lie. I have some, I just haven't posted them. Not until today... Thanks for looking!

just a few from around the house

Plenty of gators around the house.
Brother Buzz gettin' bizzy
If the plant's a rockin'...
another buzzer

I've seen boobies but not blue bees. Now I have seen both.

As you can see, I am still playing with b/w and color. This might be my last for a while. I found it a bit too time-consuming... But it is something I've wanted to do for a while. Perhaps there are better things than this complicated passion flower to play this game with.

What's next?

This is my cousin Wendy. She's my cousin by marriage - my wife's cousin. That makes her my cousin, right? All of my girl-cousins are beautiful so she fits right in with the rest of them...

Anyway, this is my first attempt in Aperture with bringing color into a black and white picture. Hardly a better subject than Wendy. If she looks familiar to you, that's no mistake on your part. She's kind of a big deal.

Damn the fishnet but that's how it was taken. And actually, I have to give credit where credit is earned. I did not take this picture, it was taken from our wedding photographer, Mike. Damn the fishnet, Mike.

just stuff

Sometimes there isn't a reason to think of a fancy title. it's just stuff. no big deal.

These cats aren't real.

My wife recently ran into the house, out of breath and wide-eyed. I knew immediately that the situation wasn't dangerous, as I know her looks and expressions. "Now what?" is what I thought to myself as I begrudgingly got out of my chair to see what the commotion was all about.

Eggs.

Eggs in our teeny, tiny little fish pond of three goldfish. Frog eggs, to be exact.

The next few weeks entailed daily progress trips and viewings of the eggs. Then the tadpole/polliwogs.

Recently we have seen these little guys, no larger than your thumbnail. I've got dozens of photos on these. Expect more in the near future...

Felines... When is enough enough?

This is Reesey. That is her name because her color reminds me of chocolate and peanut butter.

Kitty Behind the pathetic looking kitty is one of the twin set. Icky and Nicky. Nicky has a distinct nick in her left ear. She got names Nicky and Icky was the best rhyme we could come up with. Yeah, we know it sucks...

This is the silver queen of it all. The mother cat. Her name is Eaty because she loves to eat. Don't read her wrong, this is no prissy feline. She's tough as nails and will stand up to anything nature ever dished out. She is also VERY fertile...

Seen enough? There are seven more...

A Girl and Her Dog

She loves him.
He loves her.
I love them.

I shot these two with the 5DII and a macro tube on my new 135L. I'm not sure what they are but they showed up on evening and seem to find safe harbor on the blades of our lemon grass. They settle in around dusk, clamp on to the leaves with their wicked jaws and that's that for the night.

I shot this with my little pocket S90. I'm diggin' the S90. For a point and shoot camera it is fairly awesome. You'll see more from this little gem.

I also shot this with the S90. This guy was chewing the wood on the chair. Talk about a bad-ass; you could hear it munching from ten feet away!

Sandhill Cranes

I feel like I am really blessed on to have such awesome wildlife all around me. We got gators, and all manner of awesome birds. Last night there was a ruckus outside with the the mockingbirds. They were carrying on about something and it was eery - it was moments before dark. Actually, it was between dusk and dark. Anyway, a large, as of yet unidentified, owl flew out of the camphor tree and into the night.

I'll get a picture of it. Before I die, I hope.

In the meantime, here's a picture of a Sandhill Crane...

Memorial Day 2010

I wasn't really in a good position to get decent photos this year like I wanted to. I've realized, from past experience that there are two modes I can go into this as. I can go into the ceremony as a veteran or as a photographer. I can't do both. As a veteran I have to adhere to customs and courtesies. As a photographer I have to move around during certain parts of the ceremony. I won't do anything but stand at attention while the flag is being raised but I will snap a picture as soon as it reaches the top - despite where the music may be. Sorry, I gotta get that photo, though. I also had to position myself just right and people moved in front of me. Good thing the 5DII takes such large files - I can crop the heck out of them!

As from last year, this year I learned a couple of things about where I want to be and which lens to put on my camera when I go to the cemetery. Good thing it's right across the street...

This weekend I had some time to go out of my yard with my camera. I enjoy the yard but this was a treat and I thought I would share it with you. I hope you like it. It is early-ish May here and the alligators are breeding. There were some really big gators and they were bellowing for mates. They vibrate so hard and so loud that you can literally see the water vibrate off of their rib cage. Awesome. You can also feel it in your core. Not so awesome... But I figure as long as I have good Canon glass that lets me stand off in the distance, I'm good to go. I hope...

There were a lot of baby birds and juveniles. There were also lots of nests with eggs. I love this time of year!

A Day at Canaveral...

Still learning... these were taken with a 400L. Very windy this day, making it tougher.
