This Wood Stork is extremely ugly. However, it is reputed to be the world's quickest known animal. That doesn't mean it can fly real well, but it can snatch a critter out of the water quicker than anything.

Pest Control

Sandys!

After I moved here one of the first things I almost ran over was a Sand Hill Crane. It walked off of the sidewalk and into the street. I see them at the lake a lot and they hate Buzzy. It's a lot of fun to see a big bird scare a little dog. OK, so I'm a little sick...

The Lake

I like to take my little man "Buzzy" to the lake during the week. I'm not working right now so what else am I going to do? It's a nice spot, there is hardly every anyone there, and the wildlife is, well, OK.

Yard Dragons

It's no secret that one of my favorite topics is in my own front yard. I call them microgators. Most people seem to drive their cars out of the driveway without even noticing the reptile kingdom happening in their very own yards. Or maybe I just have the fascination of any 5 year old...

King of the vultures

This is the king vulture. It gets its name from being bigger than other vultures and badder. These guys will dominate a carcass scene even if there are others already present. The lesser vultures don't seem to mind, however, as the king vultures are strong enough to tear open what the smaller vultures cannot. Yum...

National bird

National bird here. Hard to think Ben Franklin wanted to choose the turkey over this. We'll be eating his suggestion soon enough! I guess that was early political mudslinging...

Nosy!

After the lorikeet woke up, it brought a friend over to visit me. They were awful 'friendly' little birds!

Slobbering giraffe

If you look closely, you can see the string of slobber from this giraffe. That tree must have had some good leaves on it!

Birdy birdy

This little lorikeet was sound asleep when I entered the aviary. Don't worry, it woke up soon enough...

Snake by the water

I haven't taken the time to figure out what kind of snake this was. It was pretty far away (my favorite kind of snake!).

Zoo Days

I took these photos at a nearby zoo. I wish I could say that I had stumbled across them in the wild but some of these photos I met get call out on. Giraffe, in my backyard? Ha!

What a strange idea the giraffe. They have the same amount of neck-bones that we do, they're only much longer. I've always enjoyed them.

Vultures

These are considered by many to be disgusting, nasty birds and epitomize the scum of life. I happen to think they are graceful and beautiful birds. Maybe I'm the only one that really watches them?

Osprey

These are fairly abundant here, as well. I really enjoy (obviously) the wildlife here. It isn't uncommon for a group of Ibis to run across your lawn at any given moment.

Sand Hill Cranes

These are pretty large birds and they are protected. Yes, they taste like chicken...

Damsels

I really enjoy these. Much like when I was in Japan, there are thousands to watch.

Crabs!

A patient man notices a lot on the beach. I'm not talking about bikinis. The real beauty is in the more primitive, non-trend effected species that the Lord made. If you watch long enough (literally hours, in my case) you can see the sand start to come to life.
