Sandhill Cranes

I feel like I am really blessed on to have such awesome wildlife all around me. We got gators, and all manner of awesome birds. Last night there was a ruckus outside with the the mockingbirds. They were carrying on about something and it was eery - it was moments before dark. Actually, it was between dusk and dark. Anyway, a large, as of yet unidentified, owl flew out of the camphor tree and into the night.

I'll get a picture of it. Before I die, I hope.

In the meantime, here's a picture of a Sandhill Crane...

Memorial Day 2010

I wasn't really in a good position to get decent photos this year like I wanted to. I've realized, from past experience that there are two modes I can go into this as. I can go into the ceremony as a veteran or as a photographer. I can't do both. As a veteran I have to adhere to customs and courtesies. As a photographer I have to move around during certain parts of the ceremony. I won't do anything but stand at attention while the flag is being raised but I will snap a picture as soon as it reaches the top - despite where the music may be. Sorry, I gotta get that photo, though. I also had to position myself just right and people moved in front of me. Good thing the 5DII takes such large files - I can crop the heck out of them!

As from last year, this year I learned a couple of things about where I want to be and which lens to put on my camera when I go to the cemetery. Good thing it's right across the street...
